DS1 Ableton 9 RGB Assignment Super Frustration

Hey guys,

Not sure if I'm doing something obviously wrong but I'm SUPER frustrated atm. I'm trying to simply assign the buttons underneath the faders of my DS1 to specific colors. I'd like the top row to be green and the bottom light purple. I'm using the online editor and getting the colors set up, save it to the DS1, open it in ableton, and then it goes wrong.

Basically, the colors turn to grey like it's a toggle (but it's not), or this time they are all random colors. Sometimes they change if I press one of the buttons over the main fader, sometimes not. Sometimes they change when I press them (the buttons I'm tring to assign), or sometimes I'll press one of them and other buttons change color...I'm so frustrated. I've even tried assigning them as cc's, notes, on colors, off colors, everything.

Can you tell me how to make the top row green - always - and the bottom row light purple - always? I'm just color coding them so I don't get confused during a set. Spent 3 hours so far and what should have been very very simple.

I'm on latest update up Ableton 9 suite 32bit, windows 7, and the ds1 has latest firmware.
