Hello All-
I’ve been poking around the message boards and the website for the past few weeks, and doing some basic stuff with a Brain Jr, and I think I now have just enough knowledge to make a fool of myself with some newbie questions. I must say this board is quite pleasant and informative compared to certain other boards out there, so I gladly throw myself at your mercy.
THE PROJECT: SIMPLIFIED DRUM STEP SEQUENCER FOR CHILDREN
What I am trying to accomplish is a “One Button One Function” interface that children (or other novices) can use to understand drum programming. I am imagining 64-button matrix which is a step sequencer, plus another bank of 4 buttons that is a “Reset/Pattern Select” bank.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
OHM RGB, SIMPLIFIED: Maybe I could just buy one and hack it apart, or maybe Livid would just sell me the 8x8 grid, plus a bank of 4? Pro: Potentially the easiest option to build.
ARCADE BUTTON MATRIX: I know various people have built these, I know for DIY builders maybe this idea is a couple years old, but still for kids it could be pretty freaking fun. Con: The enormous amount of extra labor and cost may not warrant the marginal potential for extra fun of arcade buttons. If I built a matrix like this with RGB arcade buttons based on a Brain v2, would Drum Stepp:R work with my DIY device?
If anyone has answers to my questions above, or any other thoughts regarding this project, please let me know!
Thanks,
Aaron
